Hybrid promises ease and comfort | The West Australian

The Robson XTT is a hybrid between MDC’s tough four-wheel-drive camper trailers and the XT caravan range.

With its easy-to-assemble concertina design, the six-berth camper trailer has two comfortable double beds at opposite ends of the trailer, with a comfortable, spacious internal club lounge and dining area that drops down and converts into another bed for two adults. Class C Rv Stabilizer

Its internal aluminium frame is wrapped in extensive composite panelling so it weighs in at 1570kg unloaded, making it easier to tow on and off road. Despite being a big camper, set-up only takes about five minutes.

Drop the four stabiliser legs and remove the boat rack.

Open the over-centre latches and sling it up. The gas struts make it easy.

Once it’s auto-locked into place, both beds can be slung over.

Stabiliser legs pop in under the rear-most bed to take the weight then three poles over each end get adjusted out.

Putting up the full awning and shower tent will add about 10 minutes to the set-up time.

The lounge area can be converted into a double bed for a total of three sleeping options. The stainless-steel kitchen is well protected from the elements when the awning is set up. The kitchen has a Dometic three-burner stove and plenty of fold-out bench space.

A stabiliser leg slides in underneath the kitchen and a 12-volt pump feeds water to the sink from the 200 litres of water in the two tanks underneath.

A 14-litre Truma gas hot water system is plumbed into the sink and external shower.

Inside there are four cupboards in the entrance. The lounge and table are quick to set up but must to travel in the down position.

The electrical system consists of a Projecta 240-volt charger feeding twin 100Ah AGM batteries under the seats, while the 120-Watt solar panel on the boat rack is regulated by a Projecta IDC25. It can also be charged with an Anderson plug on the draw bar. The 240-volt wall socket under the table is powered up by a 1000-watt inverter.

At the front is a McHitch 3500kg “Easy-Fit” automatic coupler. Its universal joint and spindle provide plenty of articulation and make it is easy to connect.

It rides on independent suspension with twin shock absorbers, 12-inch brakes and 16-inch alloy wheels with 265/70r16 Goodride MT tyres.

There is plenty of storage on the boat rack and a storage box up front and a fridge slide capable of taking up to an 110-litre fridge.

The Robson XTT has plenty of room for the whole family.
